Tastes Like Chicken

Did you ever think that there would be chicken flavored chips? How about mac n' cheese? Well in Australia, chicken is a flavor that goes with anything. One of my roommates, Jen from Melbourne, was making chicken flavored Easy Mac. Uh, what? And of course her reply was, "you have to taste it, I reckon it's the best thing ever." (side note: most Australians that I've met so far like to use the phrase "I reckon" instead of "I think") Well I'll try anything once and honestly, it's not bad! Along with other staple foods of Australia is Milo, which is very similar to Nesquik except not as sweet and has more of a malt texture as opposed to smooth chocolate milk. I've also had Vegemite, an acquired taste as I had to try it a second and third time to see if I really liked it. It is extremely salty and is best when lightly spread over buttered toast. I ended up liking it more than I thought and bought a little jar of it. If you're thinking 'Vegemite, ewww,' then I'd like to introduce you to Tim Tam's. Possibly the best little biscuit (cookie) in Australia. It is two chocolate wafers with chocolate creme in the middle all covered in, you guessed it, chocolate. These things are better than Oreos- I would know, cuz I love Oreos. I think I have found a new addiction! Below, my Vegemite and Tim Tam's!
















Will update as I try new foods, on the list is kangaroo meat which I have yet to try. A group of us went out to eat tonight downtown at a very nice restaurant where they were having $12 steak night. The steak- pretty good, not nearly as good as my dad's homecooked filets but it was my first restaurant experience in Lismore. Hard to believe after being here nearly a month that I finally make it to a restaurant considering I always go out to eat back in the KC/Manhattan area!
